The 2025 Big East Men’s College Basketball Tournament presented by Jeep returned to the historic Madison Square Garden on March 12 through the 15th for the 43rd consecutive year.

The Big East consists of 11 teams, UConn, Butler University, DePaul University, Georgetown University, Marquette University, Creighton University, Seton Hall University, St. John’s University, Xavier University, Villanova University, and Providence College.

All teams played exceptionally well and left everything on the court but the number 1 seed, St. John’s won their first Big East tournament title since 2000.

In a packed out roaring crowd the Johnnies put on a phenomenal journey and from the first tip off they never looked back.

St. John’s won in the quarterfinals against Butler (78-57). In the semifinals, they played against Marquette and won in a close battle (79-63). In the final game against Creighton, St. John’s was crowned the Big East Tournament Champions after a (82-66) victory.

In a post-conference interview, Big East Coach of the Year Rick Pitino stated how he felt after the win.

“Great win for the city. Great win for our University. You hear it all along that it’s New York’s team, and it truly is. As a New Yorker myself, I’m very, very proud that St. John’s has gotten to this level”.

Coach Pitino is the first coach in history to make it to the NCAA Tournament with six different teams.

On selection Sunday for the March Madness 2025 tournament, St. John’s earned the Number 2 Seed in the West Region and will face Number 15 pick Omaha.
