Short N Sweet Ent

The WNBA Finals tipped off on Sunday, October 10th with two incredible line-ups from the Chicago Sky and the Phoenix Mercury teams. Considering what the world is still going through, basketball, especially the WNBA, has spread hope and happiness to people all around the world. On the court, these ladies have dominated their positions and proved why they are the last two teams standing.

Earlier this week, sports journalist and broadcaster Taylor Rooks tweeted an invite for sports fanatics to join her in the East Village at The Cabin NYC as she hosted a WNBA Finals Watch Party for Game 3. The room was filled with some of her close friends such as, Samantha Baker, Jordan Brand Global Communications Manager, and New York Giants Running Back, Saquon Barkley who came out to also show their support for the WNBA.

Rooks has made a name for herself in a male-dominated sports journalism world by speaking the truths of the game and being authentic to herself. She has been an inspiration for ladies across the world and has paved the way for other women who wish to continue their careers in sports journalism.

It’s safe to say that when the NBA Finals are on it feels like the world stops for a moment to witness the best-of-seven game series with fans having an overwhelming selection of places to watch the game. No, there is nothing wrong with that but the same love and support should be given to the women who continue to pour out their hearts for the sport of basketball. As Brooks thanked everyone for coming out she took a moment to express that “whenever it is the NBA Finals there are so many bars that play the games and there are no shortages of places to watch it but it should be the same for the WNBA finals”. It is truly amazing to see Rooks bring awareness to the WNBA and how she takes it a step further by creating public spaces for people to come together to share their love of the sport.

As guests networked through the night it was clear that the room was split 50/50 for a winner because each team had fan favorites – Candance Parker, Stefanie Dolson, and Kahleah Cooper from the Chicago Sky team and Diana Taurasi, Skylar Diggins-Smith, and Brittney Griner from the Phoenix Mercury team. As the game was coming to a close it became clear that the Chicago Sky would become victorious. With an 86 to 50 win the Chicago Sky had the largest defeat in WNBA Finals history. The series is not over yet and fans are optimistic that the series will go all the way to Game 5. Make sure to watch the rest of the series and thank you Taylor Rooks for being the voice that we need to push female sports to the next level.

Until next post…. Coach Tay
