New York – On Saturday, December 21st, the Maryland Terrapins and the Syracuse Orange Men’s Basketball team faced off at the Barclays Center to compete in the Nutrafol Gotham Classic.

Maryland took the victory with an 87 to 60-point win and currently has a 10-2 record.

“We came out strong, set the tone, and got them on their heels. I wanted to make sure we didn’t come out passive so we applied pressure. Sometimes our pressure is not about turnovers. It’s about making teams really work. We wanted to get them out of rhythm and that’s what I thought we did a great job at, said Kevin Willard, Head Coach of Maryland”.

Within a minute into the 1st half, Miguel Selton cashed in a 3-point jumper and never looked back. He ended with 24 points and earned himself the Most Valuable Player Award. “This win feels good. I’m going to keep working hard and taking it day by day,” said Selton. The Terrapins played aggressively throughout the entire game on both the offensive and defensive sides of the court. Ja’k Gillespie clocked in his first career double-double with 17 points and a career-high 11 assists. “We knew what we needed to do defensively and we just really locked in,” said Gillespie. Julian Reese contributed 11 points and 13 rebounds and Derik Queen finished strong with 11 points and 8 rebounds.

Elijah Moore led Syracuse with 16 points. Donnie Freeman added 15 points and 7 rebounds. Kyle Cuffe Jr. added 10 points and Eddie Lampkin had a great game with 9 points and led the team with 10 rebounds. Head Coach, Adrian Autry expressed that he was disappointed with the performance of the team and it was not their best game. With that, he is focused on changing and adjusting his team’s strategy for future games.
