As the weather starts to change and people are beginning to stay in, one of the best ways to enjoy a great evening is to make sure to binge-watch some of the greatest television shows that are currently out. With that being said, Murder Inc’s own Irv Gotti, premiered a new television series called “Tales” in which each episode’s storyline is widely based on popular Hip-Hop lyrics is a show you do not want to miss. On Tuesday, September 6, Empress Lanice Public Relations Agency hosted a BET’s Tales “C.R.E.A.M.” Watch Party presented by Tobias Truvillion, Ronald “Wink” Woodall, and Larry “Legend” Spivey. After the episode aired they did a live Q & A with the guest to let everyone get a sneak peek into the creation of this amazing body of work. It was a pleasure to sit with this phenomenal group of men to learn more about their journey.

Have you ever been in the same predicament that happened during this episode?

Larry “Legend” Spivey: No thankfully I haven’t, not to save my kids. I’ve been in situations where I need money but never that dire.

As the writer, how do you prepare to create something like this?

Larry “Legend” Spivey: Experience. I know people who have been in similar situations. I pull from my life and I may pull from someone else’s life. I may pull from something that I’ve heard on the news. That’s just part of being a creator.

As the creator that you are, what environment do you like to be in when you’re writing?

Larry “Legend” Spivey: I like to be in my own space, preferably outside on my balcony or on my patio. If I’m on a time crunch, especially for something like this a TV show, I have to be able to create anywhere because I have a deadline to meet.

What advice would you give to future writers that are trying to break into the industry?

Larry “Legend” Spivey: Write Everyday! Just Write! The first one is not going to be good. No matter how good you think it is, keep going and you’ll get there if you have that passion and the knowledge for it.

What’s one piece of advice that you wish you would have received before entering this industry?

Larry “Legend” Spivey: I guess it would be to keep hustling. I learned that on my own but I wish I did have somebody there to tell me and push me in the beginning. I have a great support group now but that was built. I wish I had it from the beginning. There were days when I didn’t think it was going to happen.

Who would you put on your “Mount Rushmore” of Hollywood?

Larry “Legend” Spivey: Denzel, Denzel, and Denzel. Don Chino, Angela Bassett, Robert De Niro, and Viola Davis.

What do you have coming next?

Larry “Legend” Spivey: Be sure to check out the “Fight The Power” episode that I also wrote and “Jesus Walks”. I also have a comic book coming out soon.

I would love to start this interview off with how I ended it with Larry “Legend” Spivey by asking, Who would you put on your “Mount Rushmore” of Hollywood?

Tobias Truvillion: That’s hard. I have a few greats that I love. If we are talking about Nubian people, I’m going to put Russell Hornsby, Larenz Tate, and we lost a great one “Chadwick Boseman”. If I go back in time, Marlon Brando would be up there. There are so many great and talented people and especially when you think about people in the black theater and people shoulders that I stand on. Some of my Top Dogs are also Wood Harris and Michael Williams.

Ronald “Wink” Woodall: I’ll call out some females. Loretta Devine, Phylicia Rashad, and Angela Bassett but we can go on and on.

What prepared you to have your own voice in this industry?

Tobias Truvillion: It’s always self-awareness, self-knowledge, and having an understanding of who you are. Grounding yourself in your beliefs and your character. Staying true to that essence of your being. When you start there and you are grounded in that then you can present yourself to whatever arena you want to be in.

Ronald “Wink” Woodall: I want to talk about mindset and being mentally prepared and matching that with your physical and of course finding that “nitch”. We all want certain things that are similar but we all have a “handprint” type of difference. It’s the “nitch” and once you find it and dig into that you become your own. That’s what it’s about for me.

Things in the acting world, it can knock you down every single day, what makes you get up every day and live out your dreams?

Tobias Truvillion: That’s the beauty of it, the present day. You could get it right when you start to understand that you’re able to listen and hear the universe speak and think about mastering yourself. It’s a wonderful thing. I can’t wait to get up. I can’t wait to get to the next second. I can’t wait to remember all the future plans that I have. It’s really about a process of self-mastery and enjoying the living moment because without it you’re not here.

Ronald “Wink” Woodall: I again would have to dig into the mindset. Every day is an opportunity. Some people look at it as if you win some, you lose some. Our mindset is you win some, you learn some and that’s what it really comes down to. So every day looking at that and your progress over time holistically that’s what keeps me moving.

What’s one piece of advice that you would have that’s looking into the acting field?

Tobias Truvillion: Nobody owes you anything. Anything you want on this planet, anything you want in your life it’s about maintaining that frequency. If you could do that long enough you will achieve and be everything that you want and heart desires but you have to maintain that frequency over a course of time. Not overnight and not in two seconds. You have to hold on to it and when you do so the universe will provide it for you.

Ronald “Wink” Woodall: Stay motivated and keep pushing forward when in doubt, you’ll get there. We all have a destination that we are trying to get to. Sometimes it may shift but just keep moving. Pay attention to the detours. Sometimes you have to go back and that might take you to where you really want to be. Keep moving forward and don’t stop.

Congrats on everything that you guys are working on and on all the successes that are to come. What is coming next?

Tobias Truvillion: I have a new Hallmark Movie that just dropped, “To Her, With Love”. Make sure you support.

Ronald “Wink” Woodall: Right now I have a book out right now, “The Pocket Book of Quotes: An Actor’s Guide to Motivation. The best part about it is that it can actually fit in your pocket.
